The Board of Trustees of the University of Bahrain Appoints Eight Professors in Senior Management Positions and Approves the Renewal of Appointment of the Dean of the College of Applied Education

The Board of Trustees of the University of Bahrain, headed by the Minister of Education, Dr. Majid bin Ali Al-Nuaimi, approved the appointment of some academians to senior positions at UoB.
The Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Dr. Osama Abdullah Al-Jowder as Vice President for Information Technology Services and Administrative and Financial Affairs. Dr. Al-Jowder previously held several positions, including Dean of Student Affairs and Dean of Admission and Registration in 2008-2019. He was also Head of the Department of Chemistry in 1996-2000. He was also an assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry, College of Science in 1992. Dr. Al-Jowder holds a PhD and MSc from the University of East Anglia, UK.
Dr. Mohammad Reda Qader was appointed as Vice President for Academic Programs and Postgraduate Studies. Dr. Qader has held the position of the Dean of Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research since 2015. He joined the university in 1986. Dr. Qader holds a PhD in the systems of power quality from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, UK. Dr. Reda has participated in developing many academic programs and did scientific research, especially in the fields of power quality and clean energy.
Dr. Sheikha Haifa bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa was appointed as the Dean of the College of Engineering. Dr. Haifa bint Ibrahim held the position of the Head of Department of Architecture, College of Engineering, University of Bahrain since 2019. She holds a PhD in Architecture from Cardiff University, 2017, in the history and theories of Islamic architecture. She is the chairp of Research Lab of Culture and Architectural Aspects.
Dr. Salah Mohamed Ahmed was appointed as Dean of the College of Law. Dr. Ahmed is one of the first professors who joined the College of Law since its establishment. He holds a PhD in private law and a Masters in Law from Assiut University, Arab Republic of Egypt.
Dr. Hessa Jassim Al-Junaid was appointed as Dean of the College of Information Technology. She holds a PhD from the University of Southampton, UK, in Electronic and Electrical Engineering. She also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice from York St. John’s University, UK, 2008. She headed the Department of Computer Engineering in 2010-2013.
Dr. Lina Mohamed Khonji was appointed as Dean of the College of Health and Sport Sciences. Dr. Khonji is an assistant professor in the Department of Nursing. She previously held the position of Head of the Nursing Department and Director of the WHO Collaborating Center for Development of Nursing. She holds a PhD in nursing from the University of Manchester, UK. She has an experience of more than 20 years in the field of teaching nursing, midwifery and women and children health for both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Dr. Amal Zayed Al-Zayed was appointed as the Dean of Admission and Registration. Dr. Al-Zayed has held the position of the Head of the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies at Bahrain Teachers College since 2017. She holds a PhD in Islamic Education from the College of Education, University of Huddersfield, UK, 2016. She has more than 20 years of academic experience of teaching, research, curriculum planning, teaching methods, theories of learning, leadership, and management. She is the president of the International Society for Arabic Language Departments.
Dr. Athraa Sayed Abbas Al-Moussawi was appointed as Dean of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research. She previously held the position of the Director of the Quality Assurance Office at the College of Information Technology in 2017-2021. She holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Manchester, UK, 2009. Dr. Al-Moussawi worked as programmer with the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, and executive assistant with Apple Center.
The Board also approved renewal of the appointment of Dr. Mohammad Abdullah Baqer as Dean of the College of Applied Education for a second term. Dr. Baqer previously held the position of the Acting Vice President for Information Technology Services and Administrative and Financial Affairs and Dean of the College of Applied Education. He is a faculty member in the Department of Computer Engineering, the College of Information Technology. He joined the University of Bahrain in 2008, Dr. Baqer holds a master’s degree in Computer Networks and a PhD from Monash University and received several scholarships.
On this occasion, the President of the University, Dr. Jawaher bint Shaheen Al-Mudhahki, expressed her thanks and appreciation to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Minister of Education, Dr. Majid bin Ali Al-Nuaimi, and their Excellences members of the Board, for the important roles they play in promoting the University, and the unlimited support they provide for developing its work to continue its pioneering role in university education.
The President of the University congratulated the new appointees, wishing them every success in their new positions, urging them to continue the hard work started by their colleagues. She also thanked all the previous deans and deputies for their sincere endeavors to develop work in their colleges, and the projects they implemented or proposed, which promoted the university’s reputation at all levels.
