The College of Engineering at the University of Bahrain announced the launch of two new postgraduate programs, a PhD in Architecture and a Master’s in Electrical Power Systems.

The College, which offers 14 programs at the postgraduate level, announced that registration in the two programs will continue till Thursday, September 8, 2022.

The Dean of the College of Engineering, Dr. Sheikha Haifa bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, stated, “The PhD in Architecture is the first of its kind in the Kingdom of Bahrain, which provides the opportunity for graduate students in architecture and related programs to do postgraduate studies. It also provides the opportunity for architects in GCC countries to join the program.”

Dr. Sheikha Haifa bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa explained, “The program consists of several courses and curricula in addition to some self-learning programs.” She added, “This type of teaching methods allows students to do an advanced research activity aimed at discovering and creating new knowledge as a key requirement for obtaining a PhD degree.”

Dr. Haifa noted, “Students shall complete the program in no less than 7 semesters, and no more than 12 semesters to obtain a PhD degree.”

Program requirements include obtaining a Bachelor’s in architectural engineering/architecture with a GPA of no less than (2.67), as well as Master’s in architectural engineering/architecture or related fields, from the University of Bahrain or any other recognized university with a GPA of no less than (3.00 out of 4.00) or equivalent in other assessment systems.

With regards to the Master’s in electrical power systems engineering, Dr. Haifa bint Ibrahim stated that the new program is of great importance to engineers in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the region as it is up-to-date and robust.

Dr. Haifa referred, “This program is offered within a package of graduate programs at the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in the College of Engineering.” She noted, “This program was prepared in line with the labor market requirements, higher skills, and advanced disciplines in engineering sciences related to electrical power. The program consists of several courses and curricula in addition to some self-learning programmes.

Dr. Haifa continued, “The program includes some advanced courses related to electric power analysis systems and renewable energy networks, as well as courses on control systems, balance systems for high-voltage generation and transmission networks, as well as courses that enhance student research skills.”

In addition to these two programs, the College of Engineering offers master’s in chemical engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering management, renewable energy, artificial intelligence systems, architecture, and communications and networks engineering. The College of Engineering also offers a PhD in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering management, and electrical engineering.
