The Launch of 3ICT On Sunday 

 

The third edition of the International Conference on Innovation, Information Intelligence, Computing and Technologies (3ICT 2020), organized by the College of Information Technology at the University of Bahrain (UoB) in cooperation with Edge Hill University in the United Kingdom, King Abdulaziz University, Sultan Qaboos University and the University of Dubai, will be launched on Sunday (20 December 2020). 

Dean of the College of Information Technology, Dr. Lamya Mohammed Al-Jasmi, stated that “The 3ICT2020 Conference, held under the sponsorship of the President of UoB, Prof. Dr. Riyad Yousif Hamzah, aims to provide a platform for researchers to exchange all the updates in the computing and informatics field, and to discuss the latest solutions, advanced technologies and innovations dedicated to dealing with the most serious challenges facing societies today, including COVID-19”. 

Furthermore, she indicated that the discussions will address the impact of the pandemic on many sectors such as: financial technology (FinTech), e-learning, and cyber security, through the use of artificial intelligence applications and cloud computing. Also, the Conference aims to build partnerships and develop research cooperation with international universities and research centers to achieve the objectives and strategy of UoB, which is to support innovation and research that advance sustainability, diversity and economic prosperity in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and to highlight the influential role of the Kingdom of Bahrain in knowledge growth. 

The Conference includes several themes on current issues, namely innovations and technologies related to the Covid-19 pandemic, FinTech, artificial intelligence, electronic security, blockchain, cloud computing, e-learning IT challenges and solutions, women and technology, the Internet of Things (IoT), smart cities, big data, communications and information networks, software engineering, and robotics. 

Also, during the Conference, 86 research papers submitted by 246 academic researchers from 31 different countries will be discussed, most notably: Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Jordan, Lebanon, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, China, the United Kingdom, the United States, France, Italy, Mexico and other countries that are participating for the first time in this Conference, with praise to the generous research effort of UoB professors.  

The Dean, Dr. Al-Jasmi, stressed the increase in participation, its quality and the multiplicity of researchers from different countries, saying: “This indicates the success of the Conference in its past two editions, and the great reputation achieved by 3ICT, and that the pandemic will not hinder the efforts of UoB to continue its contributions in the aspect of scientific research production, presentation, evaluation and follow-up, as well as holding conferences and partnerships. 

The keynote speaker at the Conference will be Abdulwahid Al-Janahi, CEO of BENEFIT Bahrain, and it will also include a number of other keynote speakers, such as Professor Vincenzo Piuri of Università Degli Studi di Milano in Italy, who will discuss the latest trends in artificial intelligence in cloud computing and IoT, Prof. Helen Karatza of Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, Greece, to address the latest technologies in cloud computing that go into real-time application scheduling, Prof. Kevin Curran from the University of Ulster, UK, to present his work in maintaining data privacy through new symmetric encryption methods, and Prof. Raouf Butabah from the University of Waterloo in Canada to discuss the challenges and opportunities of network automation in everyday life. 

The conference will conclude on Monday, 21 December 2020, and it will be sponsored by Huawei, as the strategic sponsor, Bahrain Telecommunications Company (Batelco) as the gold sponsor, and GBM (Gulf Business Machines) as the silver sponsor, in addition to the technical support from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), and Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA). 

It is noteworthy that all accepted scientific papers will be published in the IEEE Xplore/Scopus database, and featured topics will be published in scientific journals published by UoB.
