The President of the University of Bahrain (UoB), Dr. Jawaher bint Shaheen Al-Mudhahka, confirmed that the celebration of the Bahraini Engineer’s Day comes from their prominent roles in the Bahraini renaissance, noting that the College of Engineering at the University is the main partner in the achievements of the Bahraini engineer, as it is the college that graduated the majority of Bahraini engineers over the past decades.
On Thursday (October 27, 2022), the College of Engineering organized “Engineer of the Future” event on the Bahraini Engineer’s Day, which falls on October 15 of each year. The event included honoring a group of the College’s outstanding students.
Also, Dr. Al- Al-Mudhahka commended the efforts of the faculty members of the prestigious College, its administrative cadres, and its students who always prove their high abilities and outstanding skills, by winning innovative competitions, and attaining high levels of academic achievement.
During the celebration, the President of the University honored thirty outstanding students studying in the second, third and fourth years from the nine engineering disciplines offered by the College, along with five other students in chemical engineering, for winning first place in a student competition recently organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
As the UoB President stated: “We are proud and pleased that our students outperform their colleagues in 24 universities in the Middle East and North Africa, and that they deservedly take first place,” extending her congratulations to all the winners.
On the other hand, Dr. Al-Mudhahka referred in her speech to the completion of the detailed designs for the College of Engineering’s new building in Sakhir, promising a different start for the College, and the beginning of a new and distinguished era. In addition, she pointed out that “The University Council issued a set of decisions that would contribute to the development of university education in general, and engineering in particular, for example: In August of this year, the University Council approved the introduction of the Associate Diploma Program in Engineering.”
“This option will provide a technical cadre for the technical jobs that are in high demand in the labor market in the Kingdom of Bahrain, in addition to allowing struggling students to obtain a certificate that allows them to start a professional life, without having to enter a new university track,” she added.
For her part, the Dean of the College of Engineering, Dr. Sheikha Haifa bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, mentioned that the College of Engineering “has been – since its establishment – pursing a distinguished line for itself, given that it is an applied education college that is indispensable in the development system of any country,” noting “The College of Engineering’s impact on the development and renaissance of our precious kingdom by graduating high-level technical cadres, contributed to achieving sustainable development.”
Moreover, the Dean reviewed a set of initiatives that contribute to ensuring the continuity of the influential role played by the College, such as: developing its methods and methodologies in providing education, hiring high-level faculty members, reviewing and modifying the nine academic programs, working to make the best use of existing partnerships, and building new ones.
