The President of UoB Congratulates Seham Abdullah on Obtaining a PhD in Dentistry

The President of the University of Bahrain (UoB), Dr. Jawaher bint Shaheen Al-Mudahka, received Dr. Seham Abdullah Mohammed, a member of the research and teaching staff at the College of Health and Sports Sciences (CHSS), who presented her with a copy of her doctoral thesis titled “The Impact of Oral Diseases on Student Academic Performance and Attendance in the Kingdom of Bahrain”.

As Dr. Seham Mohamed received her Ph.D. in 2022, from the College of Dentistry at the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom.

The researcher dealt with the impact of oral diseases, and other social, environmental, biological and behavioral variables from birth to the seventh year, and their effects that may restrict children’s academic capabilities and school attendance.

The study concluded that the rate of dental caries increased to reach 93.4% in children, and the results of the study showed the impact of caries on the child’s quality of life, and its impact on their academic average and confirmed that children with advanced stages of dental caries were more likely to have a lower academic average. The study sample included 466 students in the second grade of primary school, and their parents, within the Muharraq Governorate.

Dr. Al- Mudahka praised the research topic and the researcher’s findings, and stated that such findings contribute to the definition of reality and help to develop appropriate solutions for the benefit and interest of future generations.
