The President of UOB Receives Winners of Leadership Excellence Award for Women in the Oil and Gas Sector: Bahraini Women Supported by the Supreme Council for Women are Pioneers in All Fields

The President of the University of Bahrain, Dr. Jawaher Shaheen Al-Mudhadhi, affirmed that Bahraini women are pioneers in all fields, thanks to the patronage and sublime guidance of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, may God protect him, and the great keeness and support of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty the King, President of the Supreme Council for Women, who paved the way for Bahraini women to demonstrate their competence to assume the highest positions in various sectors, including the oil and gas sector.

The President of the University of Bahrain made this statement when she received on Thursday November 11, 2021 at the university premises, the assistant professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering, College of Engineering, the University of Bahrain, Dr. Hayat Abdullah Yusuf, and the student at the College of Science Lina Al-Zayer, winners of the Leadership Excellence for Women Awards and Symposium in the Oil and Gas Sector (LEWAS 2020).

Dr. Al-Mudhadhi congratulated the two winners on their academic excellence and winning the competition in which more than 150 female leaders from various companies and institutions in seven categories competed.

The President of the University of Bahrain added that these achievements contribute directly to development, and denote the great efforts exerted by the university for the sake of empowering women, and they indicate the distinguished status of Bahraini women in the field of oil and gas. She confirmed that Bahraini women contribute to the process of sustainable development, and lauded the keenness and belief in women’s capabilities and competences in all fields, especially that of energy.

Dr. Hayat Abdullah Yusuf won the well-deserved award for publishing several research papers contributing to the development of industries in several areas, including water treatment, biodiesel production, heavy metal removal, and others. She also organized the first virtual industrial training programs for the Department of Chemical Engineering, and contributed to the development of chemical engineering programs and process improvement tools at the University of Bahrain. Dr. Hayat also holds first-class honors in all qualifications (Associate Diploma, Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate). She has presented and participated in more than one hundred workshops and many seminars with a lot of educational organizations and community institutions.

Lina Al-Zayer, a master’s student in Environment and Sustainable Development at the University of Bahrain, deserved the award after fulfilling all the criteria, including academic achievement and student activities. Dr. Al-Zayer is a faculty member at Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. She has participated in presenting research in international symposia, and won a research grant from the Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd Center for Futuristic Studies (PMFCFS) and The World Futures Studies Federation (WFSF).

The activities of the Forum of Leadership Excellence for Women (LEWAS 2020) will be launched virtually on Tuesday 23 November 2021 under the patronage of the Minister of Oil, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa.

The Scientific Excellence Award is given to female academics with 10 years of experience or more in science and engineering departments, particularly in the field of energy, who promote this field and participate in research and lectures including promotion of young women in the fields of science, engineering and energy.
