The “Sustainability and Resilience” Conference at University of Bahrain Calls for Encouraging Innovation in Scientific Research

Participants in the 4th Sustainability and Resilience Conference called for encouraging innovation in scientific research and adopting national strategies to support innovation in all sectors.

The conference, organized by the University of Bahrain, concluded its activities last week after discussing 140 research papers in the fields of energy, smart building, health, and sustainable education from several countries.

The University President, Dr. Jawaher bint Shaheen Al-Madhahka, noted the import role of innovation in sustainability, pointing to several examples of new cities in Bahrain, future projects that are in line with Bahrain Vision 2030, and the innovative designs of such projects and the optimal use of sustainable infrastructure resources.

For his part, the international speaker, director of multidisciplinary design and innovation at Drees & Sommer, Dr. Abdul Majeed Karnouh, pointed to the importance of innovation based on scientific research and practical experience. He reviewed the distinguished projects to which he contributed at the regional and global levels.

The keynote speaker, Director of Studies and Research Department at the Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies “Derasat”, Dr. Omar Al-Obaidli, focused on the issue of the innovation-based economy, the importance of encouraging scientific research, and adopting a national strategy to support innovation, for the service of the country.

Many innovative scientific papers were reviewed in the conference sessions, which was held via video conferencing technology. Some papers introduced new environmental solutions that serve the industry and health sectors, while others presented the uses of modern technology in construction and education and highlighted the role these technologies play in the fields of smart and sustainable construction.

A variety of scientific papers calling for sustainability of tangible and intangible heritage were also reviewed. The professors of the University of Bahrain presented a considerable portion of these papers.

The conference, was held in partnership with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Bahrain branch over two days, and discussed various issues in the fields of engineering, business, science, design, planning and construction for sustainable environments.
