The Team of the University of Bahrain Wins Third Place in the Student Competition of ADIPEC 2022 Conference

A student team from the University of Bahrain won third place, competing against 16 university teams, in the ADIPEC Student Program Competition 2022, through a project titled “The Pivotal Role of Carbon Sequestration in Energy Transition”, on the sidelines of the activities of the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC 2022), which is the largest global forum for specialists in the oil and gas industry in the Middle East and North Africa.
The UoB team consisted of students from the chemical engineering program, namely the team leader Maryam Al-Najem and the members Mohammad Adel, Nermin Sharaf, and Ali Shukrallah, in addition to the external mentor from Khalifa University in the United Arab Emirates, Dr. Yusra Abdul Rahman, and the student team supervisor of the Society of Petroleum Engineers at the University of Bahrain, head of the Department of Chemical Engineering Dr. Mohammad Ali Bin Shams.
For his part, Dr. Bin Shams expressed his happiness with UoB team’s performance. He stated, “We take pride in the team for winning the third place in the competition of the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) and the Society of Petroleum Engineers. This participation reflected the distinguished level of the students of the University of Bahrain, through their ideas and innovations addressing challenges of the contemporary energy sector, such as reducing carbon emissions related to energy production.
During their visit to Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), the students learned about the latest technological innovations and strategies that address daily life problems. The program was held for three days and the students participated in several sessions and activities, including professional and technical skills, communication with companies and young professionals and students, team building, group work, presentations, field trips to local companies and a visit to ADIPEC.
The competition, which was dedicated to the best students in engineering programs related to oil and gas in the Middle East and North Africa region, aimed to give students a clear insight into the industry they are about to join, help students convey a positive message to their fellow students, provide opportunities to make new friends who can work together on common activities, and help students interact with some officials in the industry through field trips.
