The University of Bahrain and Eskan Bank are Preparing for the 10th Edition of the Creative Engineering Award under The Theme “Towards a Self-Sufficient Neighborhood”

The University of Bahrain has recently held a meeting with Eskan Bank at the College of Engineering, Isa Town, in preparation for launching the 10th edition of the Creative Engineering Award for the academic year 2022-2023, under the theme, “Towards a Self-Sufficient Neighborhood”, under the guidance of Her Excellency the Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, Amna bint Ahmed Al-Rumaihi, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Eskan Bank. The Award aims to promote students’ creative ideas to design sustainable houses, develop their engineering capabilities, prepare them for practical life, and support the architecture quality in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The President of the University of Bahrain, Dr. Jawaher Bint Shaheen Al-Mudhahka, stated, “Eskan Bank Award for Creative Engineering is one of the main competitions that motivate students to demonstrate their creative abilities in a scientific, practical, and technical manner. Dr. Al-Mudhahka noted this competition stimulates the higher capabilities and imagination of students to come up with new and innovative engineering designs.

Dr. Al-Mudhahka expressed her pride in the continuous partnerships held with the public Sector as well as the Private Sector in university students’ interest. She noted that students’ focus on the practical aspects paves their way to be entrepreneurs in the future.

For his part, the General Manager of Eskan Bank, Dr. Khaled Mohammed Abdullah, lauded the seriousness he felt in the students of the College of Engineering, University of Bahrain, who participated in the previous editions of the Award, and the creative ideas that characterized their projects. He stated, “While we are approaching the 10th edition of the Award, we are proud of the University of Bahrain for the belief of its presidents, faculty members and deans of the College of Engineering in the past years, in the Award’s importance and its outcomes.” He noted the endeavor to develop and improve the creative aspects of the Award’s outcomes and add new ideas to expand students’ creative horizons, so the University of Bahrain can play its role as a beacon of enlightenment in the community.”

The Dean of the College of Engineering, Dr. Shaikha Haifa bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, lauded the partnership and collaboration between Eskan Bank and the University of Bahrain over the past ten years, as the University continued to launch and develop Eskan Bank Award annually, in collaboration with the Department of Architecture and Interior Design, College of Engineering. She stated that she aspires to more collaboration in research, through supporting scientific research of students, in a way that would serve the research and scientific process in the University and reflect positively on the community.

The idea of the 10th Edition of the Award is based on designing a self-sufficient residential neighborhood, in which individuals are not mere consumers, but producers of energy, food, and water. They shall recycle waste to produce consumable materials in an environmentally friendly manner.

The meeting was attended by the Award Committee members, namely Head of the Department of Architecture and Interior Design, Dr. Huda Mohammed Al-Madhoub, Associate Professor of the Department of Architecture and Interior Design, Nasser Wahib Al-Nasser, Assistant Professor of the Department of Architecture and Interior Design Nihal Ali Al-Murbati, Assistant Professor of the Department of Architecture and Interior Design Reem Abbas Sultan, the lecturer in the Department of Architecture and Interior Design, Afaf Ibrahim Ahmed, and the lecturer in the same department, Susanna Soares Sariva, from the University of Bahrain.

General Manager of Housing Properties Company Iyad Deeb Obaid, Head of Human Resources, Administrative Affairs and Corporate Communication, Adnan Fathallah Janahi, Director of Corporate Communications, Latifa Ibrahim Al-Saadoun, Senior Manager of the Housing Properties, Hassan Abdul Rahim Abdulaziz, and Assistant Director of Housing Properties, Ammar Mohammed Al-Adraj, also attended the meeting.
