The University of Bahrain Discusses with the American Society of Actuaries Accreditation and Development of Professional Curricula and Exams

The President of the University of Bahrain, Dr. Jawaher bint Shaheen Al-Mudhahka, discussed with the representative of the American Society of Actuaries (SOA) the Society’s Director of International Relations, Andrew Peterson, ways of accrediting the actuarial science program offered by the Department of Mathematics, College of Science, University of Bahrain, by the SOA.

 

Dr. Al-Mudhahka received the representatives of the American Society of Actuaries (SOA) on Wednesday November 16, 2022, at the University’s premises in Sakhir and briefed them on the actuarial science program offered by the Department of Mathematics to UoB students. She discussed with them collaboration in the field of developing curricula in line with the professional certifications and nanodegrees offered by the Society to students of actuarial sciences at the College of Science, University of Bahrain.

 

The University President Dr. Al-Mudhahka highly appreciated the delegation’s visit, stressing its significant impact on strengthening the international relationship and partnership between the University of Bahrain and the American Society of Actuaries, being the most important organization in the world concerned with actuarial science.

 

Actuarial sciences are concerned with forecasting future risks, using mathematical and statistical methods, to estimate the amount and size of risks in financial industries and insurance sector, to reduce the negative consequences of risks when they occur, and to develop possible solutions.

 

The delegation of SOA met with faculty members and students of the actuarial sciences program at the University of Bahrain and briefed them on the latest developments in professional certifications and nanodegrees offered by the Society.

 

 

 

 

The visit of the American Society of Actuaries (SOA) delegation is part of a tour the Society is making to the Gulf region with the aim of learning about the universities that offer actuarial science programs.

 

The meeting was attended by Vice President for Academic Programs and Postgraduate Studies, Dr. Mohammad Reda Qader, Dean of the College of Science, Professor Mustafa Mohammad Al-Helou, Advisor to the President of UoB for Academic Affairs, Dr. Diaa Saqr Al-Jalahma, Head of the Mathematics Department at the College of Science, Dr. Abdullah Jaafar Eid, Assistant Professor of Department of Mathematics at the College of Science and member of the Actuarial Sciences Committee, Dr. Ahmed Ali Matar, and coordinator of the Actuarial Science Program, Dr. Babkar Sik.

 

It is worthy to note that the University of Bahrain launched the Actuarial Science Program in 2019. The courses are designed to prepare students to pass the professional certification in actuarial sciences offered by the American Society of Actuaries.
