University of Bahrain Holds a Workshop on Special Needs in University Education

Bahrain Teachers College at the University of Bahrain organized an interactive workshop titled “Addressing Special Needs in On Sunday June 26, 2022, University Education”, under the patronage of the President of UoB, Dr. Jawaher bint Shaheen Al-Mudhaki. At the beginning of the workshop, Dr. Al-Mudhaki gave a speech in which she stressed the importance of inclusion of all students in university education, in implementation of the tenth goal of the sustainable development goals, which is “Reduced Inequalities.”
The President of UoB also referred to the laws enacted in the Kingdom of Bahrain to reduce inequalities, the relevant global laws, and the university’s efforts in this regard.
For his part, the Dean of Bahrain Teachers College, Dr. Ted Purinton stated that the teaching staff are keen to learn about the new trends in dealing with students with special needs due to the importance of embracing them, discussing special needs in university education, and raising awareness of these issues. Dr. Purinton thanked the President of the University, Dr. Jawaher Al Mudhaki, for sponsoring this important session.
The interactive workshop touched on several issues, including the legislative rights of people with special needs, an overview of the categories of special needs, the latest trends in the field of special education, the differences between disability and special needs and between university services and adaptation in the learning and teaching process, and examples of services and practical examples of adaptation. The session included some proposals that can be applied to serve students with special needs at the university. The workshop offered several development proposals aimed at the continuous development of students with special needs in classrooms and the university to maintain their rights to education.
