UoB And UNIDO Discuss Establishing a Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship 

  

The President of the University of Bahrain (UoB), Prof. Riyad Yousif Hamzah, and the head of the “UNIDO” Investment And Technology Promotion Office in Bahrain, Dr. Hashem Hussain, discussed the possibility of cooperation in the establishment of a UNIDO center at the National University for Innovation and Entrepreneurship to embrace the owners of distinguished student projects to develop them, and qualify students to enter areas of private enterprise, start doing projects and entrepreneurship.

This came during the President of the University’s reception of the UNIDO delegation, which also included the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Federation of Information Technology Associations, Obaidly Al-Obaidly, and Dr. Amal Al-Jowder, a health promotion expert in the UNIDO office in Bahrain.

Prof. Hamzah stated that “There are broad horizons for joint cooperation between UoB and UNIDO, especially regarding developing innovative student projects and qualifying graduates to join the fields of entrepreneurship,” stressing that the University is keen to motivate and qualify students to take the entrepreneurial path and to create innovative opportunities for them after graduation.

On his part, Dr. Hussain emphasized that “UNIDO” is looking forward to conducting a distinguished work with the University, in which he can use his experiences and capabilities in the field of qualifying entrepreneurs.

The two parties agreed to form committees to discuss cooperation and formulate its frameworks, in preparation for signing a memorandum of understanding that facilitates the achievement of the desired goals.

It is worth mentioning that the UNIDO Investment and Technology Promotion Office in Bahrain works in 52 countries around the world in developing mechanisms and programs for establishing new small and medium enterprises, in addition to achieving growth in existing small and medium enterprises in the region and stimulating and directing the entrepreneurial energies.

Also, the office works closely with many public and private institutions in the Kingdom to provide appropriate support to micro, small and medium enterprises.

The meeting was attended by UoB’s Acting Vice President for Information Technology Services and Administrative and Financial Affairs Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Baqer, Director of the Bahrain Media Facility Center Dr. Mazen Mohammed Ali, Director of the Business Incubator Center Dr. Esraa Ahmed Wali, Assistant Professor at the College of Information Technology Dr. Faisal Issa Hammad, and faculty member at the College of Applied Education Maryam Ali Abu Al-Fath.
