The University of Bahrain (UoB), represented by its President, Dr. Jawaher bint Shaheen Al-Mudhahki, and the Waqf Fund, represented by its President Khalid Hamad Al-Hamad, signed a contract research on Sunday (10 April 2022), to study the market and examine the preferences of residents in the Kingdom of Bahrain for Islamic banking services.
According to the agreement, a team from UoB will study a wide sample of individuals, including clients of Islamic and conventional banks, and residents who do not deal with banks in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The research aims to determine the reasons for the preference of customers residing in the Kingdom of Bahrain for a particular bank, whether it is traditional or Islamic, and to identify the factors that can motivate the customer to move from a conventional bank to an Islamic bank and vice versa, in addition to determining the factors that attract the customer to deal with an Islamic bank, and to determine the reason for some customers to prefer conventional banks over Islamic banks.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Vice President for Academic Programs and Scientific Research, Dr. Mohammed Reda Qadir, and the Dean of the College of Business Administration, Prof. Dr. Hatem bin Mahmood Al-Masri, as well as the CEO of Ithmar Bank, Ahmed Abdulrahim, and the advisor for the development of Islamic financial services at the Central Bank of Bahrain, Suhaib Omar.
It is worth noting that the Waqf Fund was established in November 2006, under the auspices of the Central Bank of Bahrain (Central Bank), with the aim of supporting and financing training, education and research work related to Islamic finance.
