UOB Bids Farewell to H.E. Simon Martin British Ambassador to the Kindgom of Bahrain
HE Prof. Riyad Y. Hamzah President of the University of Bahrain received His Excellency Mr Simon Martin CMG, the outgoing British Ambassador to express gratitude for his unfaltering support of UoB during his term in the Kingdom of Bahrain. In his address to Ambassador Martin Prof. Hamzah said that “his dedication to education reached beyond UoB to the wider education sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain. UoB is indebted to you for your support of our research projects and new programmes with UK universities the Prince’s Foundation, and various entrepreneurship activitiesâ€.
Prof Hamzah concluded by saying “You will always have a special place with us at UoB and we will endeavour to carry on the great work that we have started togetherâ€.
A small presentation ceremony then took place.
Ambassador Martin thanked Prof. Hamzah for his appreciation and expressed his gratitude for always being made so welcome at UoB. He said while the university continues to strive for academic excellence, it is recognised the university has a much bigger role in Bahraini society and the Bahrain economy. While continuing to strive for academic excellence you are inevitably playing a role in the economic and social development of the country and you should be proud of this. Ambassador Martin went on to say UoB should also be proud of what it has achieved and is achieving. During his term, UoB embarked on research projects and new programmes with Oxford, Aston and Loughborough Universities. He also said he saw UoB being the fulcrum for technology development in this country. Once again, he thanked Prof. Hamzah and all at UOB for making him feel very at home and much appreciated during his time Bahrain.
