In light of what has been circulated in the media about the admission process at the University of Bahrain (UoB), and in following up on all the observations and complaints it receives, the University would like to clarify that it continues its commitment to provide a seat for every Bahraini student in secondary school with a GPA of 70% or above.
Considering the large number of university applicants (10200 applications), the University adhered to competitiveness according to the secondary school GPA as a unified criterion to be fair to all, for admission to undergraduate programs and granting the applicants’ first preferences for majors, as the highest GPAs were admitted first until the maximum capacity of each program was reached.
Out UOB’s keenness to provide opportunities for Bahraini students to study at the University, students were directed to choose from vacancies available in some of the Colleges of Science and Information Technology’s programs, in addition to all the College of Applied Education’s programs. In addition, the University indicates that the College of Applied Education provides a university education of no less quality than that received by students in other colleges, while this college grants the degree of the Associate Diploma, and it notes that the student’s performance in the College of Applied Education opens the opportunity to move from the Associate Diploma program to the Bachelor’s if the student so desires and meets the required criteria.
As for the students whose status was “under review”, the University stated that this means the staff of the Deanship of Admission and Registration are checking their applications, and they will be accepted after the acceptance confirmation period according to available vacancies.
In addition to what was stated above, the University would like to clarify the following as well:
1) Admission confirmation period: During this period, those who wish to study at the University confirm their acceptance, and after the end of this period, the actual number of students enrolled in the University is revealed, and students have an opportunity to change their majors according to vacancies, as well as competitive rates.
2) Transfer between programs: Each year, a period is scheduled for students wishing to transfer from one program to another, provided the student fulfills the transfer requirements, and there are vacancies in the program to be transferred to.
3) Transfer to Bachelor’s: Students in Associate Diploma programs, offered by the College of Applied Education, may request a transfer to one of the Bachelor’s programs after obtaining the certificate or fulfilling the transfer requirements.
