UOB Continues to Rise in Arab University Rankings

DrRiadHamza1In the prestigious QS Arab 2020 rakings announced today UOB has improved again to number 23 in the Middle East and North Africa region. With nearly 1200 universities in this region according to official data from webometrics, this places UOB at its highest ever position. The university saw improvements that placed UOB at number 15 in the Arab world for employer reputation and 28 for academic reputation.

Since the appointment of UOB president Prof Riyad Hamza in 2015 the university has seen a rise in four consecutive years from 43 to 23, a gain of 20 places in three and half years.

Prof Hamza “I am delighted that UOB has improved our position again and cements our place as an elite university within the region. Four consecutive years of improvement shows that we have built a sustainable and focused university that is always looking to improve and excel. This new record reflects well on our students and staff for their dedication and commitment to the national university. Last week we appointed 14 new heads of departments as we look to inject fresh ideas and energy into our efforts, plus we recently appointed new Deans and Vice President. The culture of success and innovation is part of the university and for that I must give special thanks the Supreme Council for Education and Training chaired by Deputy Premier, HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa and to the UOB Board of Trustees chaired by the Minister of Education

UOB has seen new records set in research publications and number of post graduate students which has seen an improvement in both academic and employer reputation at international levels. This year UOB was the only university from Bahrain to be ranked in the global top 1000 universities by QS and also ranked 213 globally In the Times higher education impact rankings.
Prof Hamza concludes “UOB is part of the fabric of Bahrain’s society and economy, to see its rise in the Arab world is something we can all feel proud of”
