UoB Discusses Academic and Cultural Cooperation with Matera-Basilicata Foundation

News 19 06 2019 4aA meeting to discuss cultural, scientific and research cooperation between an Italian delegation from the Matera-Basilicata Foundation and Dr. Hashim S. Hussein, Head of United Nations Industrial Development Organization – Investment and Technology Promotion Office (UNIDO-ITPO) in the Kingdom of Bahrain was held at the University of Bahrain campus in Sakhir.

The Italian delegation was led by Mr. Giovanni Oliva, General Secretary of Matera-Basilicata Foundation and the University of Bahrain was represented by President Prof. Riyad Y. Hamzah.

During the meeting, future cooperation between UoB and Matera-Basilicata Foundation were discussed, which would allow faculty and student academic exchange programs and promote joint research in fields related to the environment, renewable energy, water and entrepreneurship.

UoB achievements have also been highlighted especially in relation to the development of new academic graduate and post graduate programs, and the remarkable increase in scientific research activity.

It was also pointed out that the UoB ranked among the top 5% world universities on the QS World University Rankings 2018, landing position 411 in Employer Reputation. It achieved the top position in Bahrain and 25 in the Arab world on the QS Arab University Rankings, jumping up 17 spots in less than three years. UoB also ranked first in Bahrain and 213 globally on the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2019 in relation to the recent University Impact in fulfilling the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The two sides agreed on the importance of continuing to discuss issues of mutual interest in order to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
