UoB Higher Education Students Explore International Diplomacy Patterns

A delegation representing higher education students of University of Bahrain shall begin on Sunday a field scientific visit to Switzerland and Belgium that aims to explore the international community experience in communications and diplomacy, and to complete a book on patterns of diplomacy.

President of UoB, Professor Riyad Hamza received in his office last Thursday the Arts College Dean, Professor Alawi Al-Hashimi and Dr. Redha Mathnani, Professor of International Communications and Diplomacy at UoB along with members of the students’ delegation consisting of six Master students in media.

Professor Hamza commended the scientific trip project being organised with Tamkeen and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The trip consists of meeting with over ten international organizations in Brussels and Geneva during the week.

He said: “Bahrainis have also had a unique personality and merits in terms of conduct and openness to others”. He expressed hope the students will be ambassadors of their country, and benefit from the experiences they will encounter in terms of new cultures and peoples, as well as the patterns of diplomacy they will encounter.

Professor Hamza urged the students to observe the smallest details of their journey that could be a motif to others. He said “undoubtedly this visit will be special and remembered for many years to come with pride, as it will enrich your knowledge and experiences, and hence the research will be collective and interactive”.

The students’ delegations consists of: Mohammed Marashdeh, Abdul-Rahim Mahmoud, Sara Al-Badri, Najlaa Al-Fadel, Hajar Al-Ammari, Noureya Hajji, while the supervisor will be Dr. Redha Mathnani, Professor of International Communications and Diplomacy.

The students delegation is due to hold a meeting at the Bahraini Embassy on the first day of the trip, to be followed by a number of visits and meetings in Geneva that includes the Palace of Nations, UNHCR, ILO, WHO, OMPI, and ITU.

The second part of the journey will consist of visiting the Bahraini embassy in Brussels, the European Parliament where they will meet Friend of Bahrain Group, NATO and lastly the Catholic University of Leuven north of Belgium.

Professor. Alawi Al-Hashimi, Dean of the Arts College, said the students’ delegation looks forward to exploring prospects of scientific cooperation, as well as with organisations in scientific and research fields particularly with Leuven University. He underscored that this visit will open new prospects of knowledge with the outside world, while promoting the positive image of Bahraini students abroad, and of Bahrain.
Professor Al-Hashimi said that the students’ delegation looks forward to document the visit on film in order to present it to other students at UoB.

On their part, the students expressed their thanks to the President and for his support, and reiterated they will endeavor to be the best representatives of UoB and Bahrain.
