UoB Holds the Fourth Meeting of The Institute’s Board of Directors.. Dr. Al-Mudhahki: “Confucius” Plays an Important Academic and Cultural Role Between the Kingdom of Bahrain and China

The President of the University of Bahrain (UoB), Dr. Jawaher bint Shaheen Al-Mudhahki, stressed the importance of the role played by the Confucius Institute at the University in teaching the Chinese language, facilitating academic cooperation between students and academics and the bilateral cultural exchange between UoB and the University of Shanghai.
This came during the first session of the fourth meeting of the Board of Directors of the Confucius Institute, which was held on Tuesday (April 26, 2022), and was attended by members of the Board of Directors of the Institute from UoB and the University of Shanghai, to discuss the Institute’s business reports for the year 2021/2022.
Dr. Al-Mudhahki commended the number of students receiving scholarships to study the Chinese language, and the Institute’s continuous efforts during the pandemic, all due to the cooperation, hard work and support of members of UoB and University of Shanghai.
In turn, the Deputy Director of the International Office at Shanghai University, Prof. OuYang Hua, thanked the Director of the Institute, Dr. Zhou Qianwen, as well as members of UoB and Shanghai University for their continuous support to the Institute, expressing his contentment with the Institute’s progress.
Dr. Wen discussed the Confucius Institute business report for the year 2021 and the financial report for the years 2020-2022, noting that the number of students increased by 30% to a total of 366 male and female students, in addition to the training of instructors, providing Chinese language teaching resources, and holding cultural activities attended by more than 250 participants.
While the Vice President of Academic Programs and Graduate Studies, Dr. Mohammed Reda Qadir, discussed the Institute’s work plan for the current year 2022, pointing to the progress of the development projects set for implementation in addition to the current and upcoming projects at the Institute.
For his part, the Director of the International Office at the University of Shanghai, Dr. Cui Wei, expressed his admiration for the achievements of the Confucius Institute during the past eight years, in providing Chinese language courses and various cultural activities and performances, which were covered by the Bahraini media and accepted by the local community. Also, the Council affirmed the role of the Confucius Institute in consolidating relations of cooperation and educational cultural exchange, developing friendly relations between China and the Kingdom of Bahrain, and enhancing knowledge of the Chinese language and culture.
The meeting was attended by the members of the Board of Directors of the Confucius Institute at UoB, who are the Vice President of Academic Programs and Graduate Studies and the new Director of the Confucius Institute, Dr. Mohammed Reda Qadir, the Dean of the College of Arts, Dr. Abdulaziz Mohammed Bulaila, the Dean of Admission and Registration, Dr. Amal Zayed Al-Zayed, and the Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the College of Engineering, Dr. Hayat Abdullah Yousef.
Also, members of the Confucius Institute Board of Directors at Shanghai University were present, including Deputy Director of the International Office Dr. OuYang Hua, Director of the International Office Dr. Cui Wei, Dean of the College of International Education Dr. Li Yingjie, Director of the Confucius Institute Affairs Office Dr. Xu Xiaohong, and Director of the Confucius Institute at UoB Dr. Zhou Qianwen.
