UoB Honors 250 Front-Line Volunteers of Its Affiliates

The President of the University of Bahrain (UoB), Dr. Jawaher bint Shaheen Al-Mudhahki, and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, a member of the National Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus, Dr. Waleed Khalifa Al-Manea, praised the role of UoB’s students through their volunteering to work in the response to the Covid-19 pandemic, and the important roles they played in that critical health period witnessed by the world in the past two years.

This came during the celebration held by UoB on Thursday (May 26, 2022) for volunteers from the University who were among the National Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus, which was attended by Dr. Al-Manea and a number of officials from the Ministry of Health and UoB.

In her speech delivered on her behalf by the Vice President of Community Service and Alumni Affairs at UoB, Dr. Mohammed Saleh Al-Ansari, Dr. Al-Mudhahki praised the students of UoB who have proven their abilities, courage, dedication and sincerity, to apply what they have learned, and their determination to make great efforts to stand side by side with the health champions who have sculpted the most glorious meanings of belonging and loyalty to this kind country, “as the Kingdom of Bahrain became a role model in dealing with the pandemic and limiting its spread, with the help of God, and then with the support of the wise leadership under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, and with the vigorous follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Prime Minister.

Also, the President of UoB said that responding to the appeal reflected the internal will of UoB, so that history records its prominent role in addressing the pandemic with the National Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus.

In turn, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, member of the National Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus, Dr. Waleed Khalifa Al-Manea, said that what has been provided by the University students, especially the students of the College of Health and Sports Sciences (CHSS), is a source of great pride and honor.

In addition, he indicated that the experience of the Kingdom of Bahrain is a model ahead of many countries around the world, and stressed that many countries have worked to communicate with the national team in order to benefit from the experience, explaining that the most important factors for the success of the Kingdom of Bahrain during this crisis is the volunteering of many Bahrainis, and UoB’s students constitute the largest portion of them.

Moreover, Dr. Al-Manea spoke about the early days of the pandemic, and the extent of the support that the national team received from the wise leadership, headed by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, with the vigorous follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Prime Minister, in addition to community awareness in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

On her part, the Dean of CHSS at UoB, Dr. Lina Mohammed Khenji, expressed her pride when she sees the students of UoB – especially those in the health disciplines – engaging in volunteer work and joining the front-lines without hesitation to address the pandemic, which reflected a humanitarian and national sense and a response to the nation’s appeal to confront the epidemic.

Also, Dr. Khenji confirmed that the volunteers reflected all the efforts made by UoB and CHSS over the past years, which exceeded 46 years, in preparing the health workforce in the Kingdom of Bahrain, showing a realistic example of a success story in achieving Bahrainization in health cadres and human investment in expertise and manpower from the College’s graduates.

Dr. Al-Manea and the Vice-Presidents of the University presented the volunteer students with certificates of appreciation at the end of the ceremony, which was held in the Bahrain Hall at Bahrain Polytechnic College in Isa Town. Also, it presented some of the students’ experiences through a short documentary film, where some student volunteers talked about their experiences, the motives that prompted them to respond to the appeal of the country, the challenges they faced during the pandemic, and how their volunteering contributed to the refinement of many of their practical skills and experiences they gained during their presence among the lines of the National Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus.

The ceremony was attended by the Vice President of Academic Programs and Postgraduate Studies, Dr. Mohammed Rida Qadir, and the Consultant of Infectious and Internal Diseases at Salmaniya Complex, Dr. Jamila Al-Salman, a member of the National Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus, in addition to a number of deans of the colleges of UoB and officials from the Ministry of Health.
