UoB Students Win Third Place in The Middle East 

 

University of Bahrain (UoB) students participating within the Kingdom of Bahrain team in the Huawei ICT Competition 2020 achieved by winning third place in the Middle East among more than 15,000 students from 440 universities in the international competition held in the People’s Republic of China. In addition to UoB winning the title of Distinguished University, and Dr. Alaa Al-Omari, Assistant Professor at the College of Information Technology, receiving the title of Distinguished Supervisor, as the winners of the final round of the competition were announced at the virtual ceremony, which was held on Sunday, 27 December 2020. 

On this occasion, the President of UoB, Prof. Riyad Yousif Hamzah, congratulated the students of the College of Information Technology, who won the Huawei ICT in the Middle East. 

Moreover, the President of the University stated that ” Our students have always proven their worth and precedence in this important global competition, and they have already achieved advanced global positions in the past years,” noting that an important aspect of this victory is due to the internationally accredited study programs, and the quality of the teaching and learning process at the University’s College of Information Technology. 

UoB students won two of the first three places qualifying for the Middle East competition, as Farhan Ahmed (University of Bahrain), Ali Fayez Mirza (Bahrain Polytechnic) won the second place, and Mohammed Yusha’a Mohammed (University of Bahrain) won the third place. 

On her part, the Dean of the College of Information Technology, Dr. Lamya Mohammed Al-Jasmi, expressed her happiness on the achievement and said: “The College is proud of all its students, especially those who participate in tournaments and competitions” as they increase the student’s knowledge, puts him on the line of market requirements, and opens up horizons for him, in addition to having a broader network of relationships with his colleagues from various countries and institutions working in his fields of study.”. 

The Huawei ICT Competition is one of the largest competitions in the world in the field of information technology, aiming to prepare the future generation to lead the ICT sector and put digital technologies within the reach of every person, home and company. Also, it aims to discover and develop promising talents in the ICT sector, enhance the level of competitiveness in this sector by spreading a culture of innovation and creativity among students and encouraging them to take an active role in implementing the digital transformation process and advancing the process of sustainable socio-economic development.
