UOB Wins First Place in Garden Show’s Educational Category

The University of Bahrain’s booth won first place at the Bahrain International Garden Show, which concluded on Sunday (February 23, 2025) at the Bahrain International Exhibition & Convention Centre.

The exhibition was held under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, with support from Her Royal Highness Princess Sabika bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of the King of Bahrain and Chairperson of the Advisory Council of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development.

Sheikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, Secretary-General of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development, presented the first-place trophy to the University of Bahrain’s representatives.

The University’s participation this year focused on the concept of plant permanence — the ability of plants to survive and thrive in harsh environmental conditions, such as the amount of irrigation, soil quality, climate changes (heat and wind) and agricultural pests, as these factors affect plant parts such as roots, stems, leaves and fruits.

‎The idea aimed to find solutions to the problems faced by home gardeners in maintaining the sustainability of their plants during the summer and winter in Bahrain, and comes in line with the national plan to reach zero carbon neutrality by the year 2060.

It is worth noting that the University of Bahrain consistently ranks among the top three places in this exhibition, which attracts thousands of visitors from both inside and outside of Bahrain.
