The Society of Actuaries in the United States (SOA) has announced changes to the curricula of professional certification exams in actuarial science, which will come into effect in the current year 2022.

This took place during a recent consultative meeting between the Department of Mathematics, College of Science, University of Bahrain and the Society of Actuaries.

The meeting, which was held virtually, aimed to open up channels of cooperation with the aim of enhancing the curricula of the Bachelor of Actuarial Science introduced by the Department of Mathematics, and introducing the latest developments and changes in the curricula of the professional certification exams in actuarial science.

The attendants expressed their readiness for joint cooperation to maintain the compatibility between the revised examination specifications and the curricula in the Bachelor of Actuarial Science at the University of Bahrain.

The team of the Society of Actuaries provided a detailed explanation of the new microcredentials pathways, which graduates of the program can obtain as a first requirement towards obtaining the remaining professional certifications.

The SOA expressed its readiness to hold specialized scientific workshops and seminars for students of the program, open up communication channels with its accredited members in the region, introduce students to the program at UoB and provide them with training and job opportunities.

Representatives of the SOA lauded the students of the actuarial science program at UoB for obtaining the first professional certificate while still in the third year of the program.

The Department of Mathematics at the University of Bahrain looks forward to creating global partnerships with actuarial science societies and institutes worldwide to enhance the quality of the Bachelor in actuarial sciences and provide students with the scientific knowledge that qualifies them to obtain professional certificates, which will increase their competitive advantage in the local, regional and international labor markets.

The Department of Mathematics at the University of Bahrain was represented by members of the Actuarial Science Program Committee, namely the Head of the Department of Mathematics, Dr. Abdullah Jaafar Eid, Actuarial Science Program Coordinator Dr. Babacar Seck, Assistant Professor in the Department, Dr. Ahmed Ali Matar, and Research and Teaching Assistant Aseel Masoud Al-Harmi.
